Rooms for Rent

Foreigners and locals alike, sometimes we find it hard to find a temporary (or long-term) yet conducive environment to live in Singapore without actually buying a flat which regulations and finances becomes great concerns. Therefore, many look to renting places to reside in.

However, finding rooms to rent may pose as a hassle itself.  The best known ways are flyers with tear-offs pasted everywhere (thank god for advertisement boards by the MRT stations now) and newspaper advertisements.

And truth be told, I feel no security with those tear-off flyer method. There is no guarantee and there is absolutely a lack of convenience. Just because you want to find a room to stay in Clementi, you have to get to that area and look around. As stupid as it sounds, it’s a fact.

Now, newspapers bring on a different feel. A little better, you get to choose using $1/day (newspaper purchase, just in case you are like WHATT?!) from all over Singapore. BUT, you need to scrutinise the small prints one by one to find a suitable room. Personally for newspaper advertisements, I feel security as the owners who are renting out would take the effort to do it instead of slapping random papers all over the country.

However with technology in place for the tech-savvy, finding Singapore rooms has never been easier. I can’t even start listing the benefits, okay, I will.

Benefits (for long-term stays):

  1. Keyword search
  2.  Sort according to area you want to reside in
  3. Price readily available for you to plan budget
  4. Number of rooms, Number of pax

Benefits (for tourists even!):

  1. Low cost as compared to hotels
  2. Comfortable and immersed in the culture of Singapore
  3. Need air-conditioning? Washing machines? Internet? Choose accordingly to your wishes!

Well, surely there are cons for everything right? Yes, here comes…

Cons (for everyone):

  1. You will need internet accessibility (DUH)

Typography ♦ UT ♦ Easter

Since the last post, I've ended official lessons in Republic Polytechnic (wheeehooos!) and the last of Understanding Tests ends in a week, 23 Feb to be exact.

Following would be all the intense dance practices for Easter 2012. After which would be Seoul, S.Korea. Just gotten the flight and guesthouse booked last Friday and we're flying on the 29th of April. So for now, lots of itinerary planning to do ^^

Pretty caught up with typography recently, researching on the different components, scouring the internet for tutorials and random trial-and-error on Photoshop CS5.

... And a few pictures of Toulouse and Berlioz, my beloved kitties.

4 months old, all grown up in size yet still like little babies. I can't even get started on how much I love them. Their sleeping poses are the best.

Sherlock Holmes ♦ We Not Naughty

Sherlock Holmes had been screening since last year, but only had time to catch it recently after Zone C reunion dinner last Wednesday.

Tense, mind-boggling, yet humorous at the same time. It was a great production, bringing the book to life. In between all the events in the show, there were life lessons and wisdom slotted in.

While the Madame and the rest rode magnificient horses, the hero rode a pygmy horse.
The most basic was: Slow and steady wins the race.
Looking deeper: Being secure and listening to the voice within. Many times our heart tells us the right choices, but the logic-loving brain would tell us otherwise and often win the argument.

***

The next movie was a major screw up.
Maybe that was a strong word, but summarising all my thoughts about the movie.

1. THE SHOW TITLE

We Not Naughty 『孩子不坏』 The English title, plain grammatical error. Any Primary school children who pay attention during English lessons would have spotted the wrong grammar.

2. SINGLISH

Many Singaporean would regard Singlish as a part of Singapore’s culture and unique identity. As much as I hate it, I have to admit that I do add ‘la’, ‘lor’ and other terms in my conversations and is still in the midst of speaking without the extra syllable(s)

3. CAPITALISING ON SINGAPORE MARKET

Making a movie about rebellious teenagers, bullying, broken family, parental love, gangs and a Good Samaritan using the daily lives in a Singapore setting – Seriously, it’s not like we don’t know what is going on around us as we live each second.

In other words, those who have lived in Singapore for most part of their lives going to watch this movie is like a re-enactment of whatever has happened; be it oneself or others around.

Unless the last time you have lived/had exposure for a period of time in Singapore was 5 years to a decade ago, pointless movie. If you’re a foreigner, pointless movie too, you wouldn’t understand what they are talking about with all the added Singlish and unfortunate mispronunciations of Mandarin.

4. REALISTIC (NOT!)

Some scenes just screams FAKEEEEEEEEEEE in your face. I’m not going to waste time describing the scenes though…

It give me chills that I spent 137 minutes watching a 'mehz' show, the reason I'm not regretting the movie was the people I was with. Nevertheless, it's going to be awhile before I show any support for local movies/films again.

On a side note, the SGD1 Rochor Tau Huay was better than the SGD11 movie.

Back to school ♦ New phase in life

Back to RP for the last 2 months and off I go!
It was a nice journey (except during FYP2 where it was and still is seriously @#*&%) with nice people and weird things we do.

Excited for the things that are to come, taking up a job after Feb 25, earning capital, research and plan out my business; that has to do with cats (DUH!) and errrr, university?

The new phase? There will no longer a ~teen when I write my age in a few months' time. I guess by the time I figure how fast time actually passes, I'll be married with kids, an old woman and 6 feet underground. Okay, stored in a ceramic jar and sealed behind a slab of ceramic O.O

So for now, I'm going to give my best years for the One that has sacrificed so much.

#likeabeef ♦ Zoo ♦ Countdown

Went to The Corner Place Korean BBQ 길목 @ Marina Square with the #likeabeef dancers for our customary post performance food reward on Wednesday.

The restaurant took me by surprise as it was really authentic, considering the amount or self-proclaimed korean, japanese or restaurants of any other cuisines.

The layout of the place was fairly simple.
There was a Korean music channel showing, the staff were mainly Koreans and the utensils are metal/stainless steel. Metal chopsticks, long metal spoons and metal bowls (the Korean, not the beggar way .__.) !

Compared faux pas restaurants like Seoul 花园 (just pretend you didn't get it the first time you read, trying to be discreet), The Corner Place Korean BBQ 길목 has lesser choice of food as it focuses on traditional Chicken and Beef Bulgogi (불고기), Ddeokbokki (떡볶이), fresh green lettuce leaves and steamed pearl (not the long grainy type) rice, it is still certainly a much more enjoying experience to dine at.

Totally enjoyed the food and fellowship with the dancers.

Went to the Singapore Zoological Gardens with Valerie, Swee and a whole bunch of funny people. My camera only focuses on all the animals though :/ The rest of the photos are available at my FB page.

And finally, the countdown to welcome 2012, the year of Order.
4th year counting down in church, we had our own entertainment show and Party Rock Anthem ushering in the new year with us.

Pictures are all over the place, thus a video to redeem my laziness to get the countdown photos up here.

Not going to drill into my mind the fact that school is resuming in a day. Then again, I should probably enjoy the last few weeks of my tertiary school life.
